Heavenly Papa, Holy Lord, Precious One,
Did you weep when your son "cried with a loud voice, 'Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”' (Matthew 27:46).
Did you wring your hands when haters mocked your son, Jesus?
Did sorrow saturate your heart when enemies stripped clothes off your son’s body, poked him, spat at him, yelled, laughed, beat him, and slapped him over and over again?
Did it break your heart when your son’s closest friends and companions betrayed him, abandoned him?
Did you want to hold Jesus when pain wracked his body?
Did you grieve when your son believed you had forsaken him?
What kind of love is this? - The kind of love that considers us worth dying for – perfect love from God.
Thank you Holy God, Heavenly Papa, for giving us the most precious gift of all. Thank you for presenting us with the most treasured gift in your possession - your only son, your baby, your loved one, your beloved, Jesus.
Perfect love triumphs over death. Thank you precious Jesus for dying for us so we can live, eternally.
