Who can compare?

Posted on March 30, 2015 at 12:35 AM

You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you. Were I to proclaim and tell of them, they would be more than can be counted

(Psalm 40:5).

I heard an incredible sermon at the beginning of Lent. The preacher said that when we compare ourselves to others it is as if we are standing in a funny house of mirrors.

Why do we gaze on reflections of ourselves that are distorted, disfigured, contorted?

Why do we place our identity in those things and people that cannot see our true worth and value?

Why do we place a higher premium on the views of others than ponder the unsurpassable wisdom of God?

And finally, have we asked God to show us how to see ourselves through his lens of love?

My sense is that when we see ourselves through the lens of God's love, place our sense of worth in his hands, and learn to trust him with our sense of wellbeing, we will experience a freedom that we have never known.

Let's allow God's thoughts to become our thoughts. Let’s encourage one another to see ourselves through the one who cannot be compared to anyone or anything.
